About Me
My name is Akia, I am 19 years old and I’m currently studying Economics at university in Leicester. I tutor Maths and Economics.
Maths is the subject I’m most passionate about teaching; not because it came naturally to me, but because I know exactly what it feels like to sit in front of a page of equations and think, “I have no idea what’s going on.”
I’ve been there. And because I’ve been there, I know how to break things down into small, manageable steps that actually make sense.
I achieved a B at A-Level Maths (just two marks off an A), and that came from a lot of hard work and learning how to study effectively. My results reflect consistency and determination, and those are the skills I try to pass on to my students.
I achieved a 6 in GCSE Economics after only studying the syllabus for 9 months prior to the exam and then achieved an A in A-Level Economics the following year.
I was homeschooled up until university, which meant I often had to teach myself new material. That experience really shaped how I learn, teach and explain things now. I’ve also helped teach my younger siblings, so I’m very patient and used to adapting explanations depending on how someone may understand it best.
My aim as a tutor isn’t just to improve grades, it’s to help students feel confident and capable, especially in subjects they might currently find intimidating.
I am available for 1-1 home tutoring in Leicester and online 1-1 and group sessions wherever you are.
